Stephanie with VoyageKC: Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Yang.
Hi Steve, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the owner/ filmmaker of Moontage Films. I came to the United States and pursued my filmmaking dream in 2008. After graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2012, I received some wedding companies looking for videographers & editors in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
During that time, I crazily learning and filming weddings every weekend in Bay Area and LA. By doing almost 50 weddings per year, it brought me so much experience for my future style built-up. Thanks to my experience in Cali, I brought the Hollywood style to the Kansas City wedding market, which offered brides different styles compared with the other wedding videographers. I am glad that I chose KC because we have a strong wedding community and every vendor helps each other. What made me love Kansas City is we have many wedding vendor social networking events every month that I knew people quickly. We have a “Wedding” Academy Awards every year that all the wedding vendors nominate their best vendor in each category (ex. Best photographer, Best Planner, etc.). Moontage Films was proudly awarded as 2019 Best Wedding Videographer in Kansas City!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hard part for us is to find a unique style compared with other videographers. It was not easy in the beginning for sure. I was fortunate to work and learn from many different companies and looked for my own style. Language is also a challenge as English is my second language.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Oh, I had many brides postponed their weddings to 2021 due to COVID… I am still blessed that we all moved on to this year. I actually learned how to create a COVID version of wedding films, lol. I made a film with the father of the bride’s speech to tell how hard to make a wedding during COVID, haha. Link below:
